Delaware men

The Blue Hens lost a tough 75-74 decision at Temple Saturday night, their second straight loss. Fifth-year guard Kevin Anderson led UD (4-3) with 26 points while Dylan Painter and Jameer Nelson Jr. added 21 and 13 points each. Next up for Delaware is a home game tonight vs. Long Island University at 7 pm, then the annual Route 1 game at Delaware State Friday December 2nd.

Delaware women

Not even the fire department could cool off senior guard/forward Jasmine Dickey these days. The Baltimore native scored 48 points in UD’s 87-72 win over Eastern Michigan Friday night. Only Elena DelleDonne’s 54 points against James Madison in the 2009-10 season ranks higher in Blue Hen women’s hoops history. Dickey is currently second in NCAA Division I in scoring at 25.3 points per game. The Blue Hen women overall are 6-1 and return to action Thursday at Columbia University.

Delaware State men

DSU lost a tough game at Long Island University Saturday by a count of 99-65. Senior guard Myles Carter led the Hornets with 25 points while sophomore forward D’Marco Baucum added 12 points and a team-high 9 rebounds. DSU returns to action Friday, hosting the University of Delaware in the Route 1 Rivalry.

Delaware State University women

The Hornet women battled Towson tough for a half before the Tigers pulled away to a 76-47 win Monday night. Senior forward Zoe Holmes led the Hornets with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while first-year guard Sianny Sanchez-Oliver added 12 points. The Hornets will next host Saint Peters University Saturday December 4 at 1 pm.

Delaware Tech men

The Del Tech men snapped a five game losing streak with a 105-101 overtime win over Raritan Valley Community College November 23rd. Caesar Rodney grad Syed Myles made 20 of 21 free throw attempts on his way to a season-high 36 points and Mount Pleasant alum Rashaan Butler collected a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Smyrna’s Izaiah Credle scored 14 points and Tyson Tanner of John Dickinson hauled down 20 rebounds (and scored 9 points). DTCC (2-6) hits the road tonight for a game at Mercer Community College then hosts RCSJ-Cumberland Thursday December 2 at 6 pm.

Delaware Tech women

Delcastle alum Daqira Lancaster-Navarro came up with a huge game of 48 points and 12 rebounds in the Del Tech women’s 84-70 victory over Rarity Valley Community College Tuesday night. Smyrna’s Melena Credle also had a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds, helping DTCC improve to 4-4 on the season. DTCC hits the road tonight and tomorrow for games at Mercer Community College and Chesapeake Community College before hosting Lackwanna College at noon on Saturday December 4.

Goldey-Beacom men

The Lightning split their games this week, closing out non-conference play with an 84-75 victory over Bloomsburg Tuesday and a 78-74 loss to Kutztown Sunday afternoon. Leading the way for GBC in the Bloomsburg game was guard Nazim Derry, who scored a team-high 31 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and handed out three assists and collected 3 steals. Sophomore guard Mekhi Collins scored 28 points in the Kutztown game. The Lightning begin Central Atlantic College Conference place Wednesday night, hosting Georgian Court University at 8 pm.

Goldey-Beacom women

GBC’s women ended non-conference play with a tough 64-62 loss at CIAA member Bowie State Sunday afternoon. Briana Seltzer and Alexis Harrison led the Lighting with 15 points each and Mickey Williams added 12. GBC will start CACC play Wednesday, hosting Georgian Court at 6 pm.

Wilmington men

The Wildcats split their games this week as well, defeating UDC 74-67 Wednesday afternoon and losing 76-68 at Bloomsburg Sunday. Cape Henlopen graduate Randy Rickards led five WilmU players in double figures with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Smyrna’s Caleb Matthews scored 13 points as did guard Jordan Jackson. Ethan Tarte and Kameron Cooper each scored 11 in the win. Rickards and Cooper led the team in scoring Sunday with 20 and 14 points respectively. Next up for the Wildcats is their CACC opener at Jefferson University Wednesday at 8 pm.

Wilmington women

The WilmU women are in the middle of a 10-day break that ends with their CACC opener at Jefferson University Wednesday at 6 pm.

#delhs Standouts

Men’s Basketball

Malik Curry (Wilmington native, former St. Elizabeth student-athlete, fifth-year senior, West Virginia): Scored a season-high 16 points in the Mountaineers’ 80-77 win over Eastern Kentucky November 26. Averaging 8.3 points per game and second on the team in total steals (10).

Ian Robertson (Cape Henlopen graduate, senior, Randolph-Macon College): Averaging 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for the Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III.

Keon Taylor (Mt. Pleasant graduate, senior, Alvernia University): Scored his 1,000th career point in the Golden Wolves’ 70-64 win over New Jersey City University Saturday. Third on the team in scoring (13.8 points per game) and leads in assists (4.8 per game).

Women’s Basketball

Kaylee Otlowski (Caravel grad, senior, Salisbury): Named Coast-To-Coast Conference women’s player of the week after averaging 18 points and 16 rebounds per game in the Sea Gulls’ wins over Stevenson and Rowan. Averaging 15.8 points and 8.9 rebounds on the season.

Lauren Park-Lane (Sanford grad, junior, Seton Hall): named to the Cancun Challenge Riviera Division All-Tournament Team, averaging 18 points and 8 assists per game over the weekend. Leads the Lady Pirates in scoring (19 points per game), assists per game (6.6), total steals (10) and blocks (4).

Alisha Lewis (former Ursuline student-athlete, junior, Central Florida): Averaging 6 points per game in four starts for the Knights. Second on the team in assists (2.8) and leads in total steals (15).
