Sanford forward Nnanna Njoku was a one-man wrecking crew on Senior Day, scoring a game-high 28 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking six shots as the Warriors handed Tower Hill their first loss 54-49 Saturday afternoon.
Njoku was a force, scoring 10 first quarter points, then spreading the damage out over the next three quarters as the Warriors (8-1, 5-1 conference) turned an eight-point third quarter deficit into a four-point lead by the state of the fourth.
Before that rally, Donoven Mack and brothers Dean and Dylan Shepherd led the Hillers (6-1 overall, 4-1 conference) to a 30-22 lead early in the third. Sanford countered behind three point shots by Mohammed Koneh and Brandon Dwyer, and Dayon Polk’s head’s up pass to a streaking Carter Ruby for a buzzer-beating layup gave the Warriors a 43-39 lead after three. In the fourth quarter, Njoku added seven more points to help Sanford put the game away.
Donoven Mack led Tower Hill with 17 points.
