Sanford senior forward Nnanna Njoku and Caravel junior guard India Johnston were named 2020-21 boys’ and girls’ player of the year by the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association Friday afternoon.
Njoku, the 6’9 Villanova commit, averaged 23.1 points per game for the Warriors, including a game-high 24 in the state championship win over Smyrna 51-45.
Johnston, a 5’8 guard who is committed to Towson University, led Caravel back to the final four with an average of 19.3 points per game.
Joining Njoku on the boys’ first team is Tower Hill senior guard Donoven Mack (the first Hiller to do so since Carmen Wallace in 1992-93), Salesianum senior guard Rasheen Caulk Jr., Appoquinimink senior forward Lorenzo Carrier and Smyrna senior forward Olumuyiwa Salako.
Included on the girls’ first team along with Johnston are St. Elizabeth senior forward Naia Pulliam, Conrad senior center Ja’Nylah Whittlesey, Delmarva Christian senior guard Grace Fetterman and Woodbridge senior guard Janeira Scott.
