Dwyer’s sharpshooting helps Sanford coast to win

With a 6’9, Villanova-bound post player as the center of attention, pardon the pun, it’s natural that everyone on the Sanford boys’ basketball team is going to be open at some point because of a double team.

Saturday night, it was senior guard Brandon Dwyer who was left open and ready to shoot.

Dwyer nailed four second-half three pointers for his 12 points to push the Warriors by Salesianum 60-30 at 76ers Fieldhouse in the final game of the annual SL24 UnLocke the Light Classic.

“In the first half, they were double teaming Nnanna [Njoku] and that left me open. Second half, they still played off of me, so that gave me the shots I got,” Dwyer explained.

“He’s big for us,” added Njoku, who scored a game-high 21 points. “They tried to take him away in the first half, but he never got complacent and he started making shots.”

Sanford trailed 4-0 early, but Njoku helped spark an 11-2 run to end the first quarter with three baskets and free throw. Sanford poured it on in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, capped by a Dwyer three pointer off a Nasir Cowan feed to make it 30-12 just 90 seconds into the third quarter.

Rasheen Caulk Jr. led Salesianum with 11 points.
