Flight A
Hodgson Silver Eagles
Head Coach: Chris Jones
2020-21 record: 6-9
Key returners: Ni’yonna Saunders 5’7 sr. guard/forward, Thailys Torres, 5’6 soph. guard/forward, Aaliyah Henlon, 5’5 soph. guard
Key newcomers: Marissa Isbell, 5’7 first-year guard/forward, Kamree Tucker, 5’5 first-year guard, Sanaa Saunders-Young, 5’9 first-year forward/center
Outlook: Youth has always been served in the Hodgson girls’ program, with consistent success under head coach Chris Jones. This year, that youth gets some more experience as shooter Ni’Yonna Saunders, along with Thailys Torres and Aaliyah Henlon lead a promising corps of first-year players into Flight A battle this season.
“This years’ team is looking to improve upon last season’s record as they strive for competitive greatness,” Jones says. “It’s a goal that can be accomplished through hard work, improving daily and playing for each other.”
Flight B
A.I. duPont Tigers
Head Coach: Robert Price
2020-21 record: DNP (sat out season due to COVID concerns)
Key returners: Imirah Trader, 5’6 jr. guard, Samantha Grunza, 6’3 sr. forward/center, Myliah Shorter, 6’1 jr. foward/center
Key newcomers: Cha’Nyiah Dunston-Mason, 5’7 sr. guard, Ny’Aijah Jackson, 5’9 soph. forward, Taylor Lee 5’7 jr. guard, Kimahni Woods, 5’9 jr. guard/foward
Outlook: One of the best stories of the 2019-20 season, the Tiger girls return to action after sitting out the 2020-21 season due to COVID concerns. They return with a new coach (former Brandywine assistant Lucky Price) and new players (Middletown transfer Cha’Nyiah Dunston-Mason leads an intriguing group of newcomers) and the same aim – to win Flight B.
“We think we’re going to be very good this season and sky is the limit,” Price says. “As long as we play together and leave the attitudes at home we should be fine.”
