Sanford’s Kubek, Dover’s Allen lead girls and boys all-state teams

By Chris Stevens, Editor

Sanford center Allie Kubek and Dover guard Elijah Allen were named Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association girls and boys basketball players of the year and lead the All-State teams, as selected by DSBA Friday.

Kubek, a 6-foot-1 senior, averaged 20.1 points per game to lead Sanford to a 20-2 record and the Final Four. Kubek was also one of seven Delaware girls to score her 1,000th career point this season. Also on the first team is Padua’s Michelle Kozicki, sisters Julie and Stefanie Kulesza of Conrad and St. Elizabeth’s Ber’Nyah Ward-Mayo.

Allen, a 6’2 guard, led Dover to a 21-2 mark, including a come-from-behind 86-82 win over Philly power Cardinal O’Hara at 76ers Fieldhouse on January 18. Allen scored 42 in that game. Joining Allen on the first team is Sanford forward Jyare Davis, who becomes the first boys’ player to be named first-team all-state in each of his four high school seasons. Sanford’s Nnanna Njoku and Corey Perkins are also on first team, as is Dover guard Eden Davis.
