It is a testament to the depth of Sanford’s roster that senior guard Corey Perkins didn’t score until the second half of the third quarter of Saturday’s DIAA boys’ basketball state quarterfinal..
Perkins ended up with 16 points overall as the defending champion Warriors outlasted 8th-seeded Delmarva Christian 75-41 Saturday afternoon at Salesianum. The Warriors advance to the Final Four at the Bob Carpenter Center on Thursday with the win.
Sanford (19-3) got off to a great start behind some early dunks from Devin Harris, Nnanna Njoku and Jyare Davis, but the Royals, led by nine first half points from senior guard Andrew Workman, closed to within eight points (30-22) at halftime.
Perkins took over from there, scoring all of his 16 points in the game’s final 12 minutes, giving Sanford the needed cushion to move on. Jyare Davis led the Warriors with 18 points overall, Hassaan Perkins added 17 and Nnanna Njoku pitched in 12 points. Andrew Workman led Delmarva Christian (19-3) with 18 points.
