Michelle Kozicki didn’t make every shot she took Friday night, but she came very close.
The senior forward scored a season-high 42 points as 6th-seeded Padua (14-6) upended No. 11 Polytech 67-45 at Salesianum Friday night, earning a spot in the quarterfinals against No. 3 Sanford on Monday at Tatnall School.
26 of Kozicki’s 42 points came after halftime (she made 16 of 21 free throw attempts for the game), helping ease the Pandas past a determined Polytech team, who trailed 14-0 after one quarter, but bounced back to within eight points midway through the third quarter. Senior guard Yaa Yaa Afriye scored 27 for the Panthers, who finished their season 14-8.
No. 1 Conrad 70, No. 17 Dover 26
Red Wolves guard Alyssa Faville scored her 1,000th career point in this contest, becoming the second Conrad player to achieve the feat this season (Stefanie Kulesza scored her 1,000th point earlier this season).
No. 2 Cape Henlopen 61, No. 15 Wilmington Charter 40
Not to be outdone was Cape senior forward Abbey Hearn, who also scored her 1,000th career point in the Vikings’ win. Hearn joined senior teammate DaNia Cannon in the 1,000-point club, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the game. Cannon added 16 points and 5 assists and Carlin Quinn compiled a double-double (14 points and 10 rebounds) for Cape, now 18-4 on the season.
No. 3 Sanford 41, No. 19 Ursuline 33
The Warriors (19-2) survived a challenge from the 19th-seeded Raiders, led by senior center Allie Kubek’s game high 24 points. Hannah Kelley scored 12 points for Ursuline, who finished their season 10-11.
No. 20 Caravel 59, No. 4 Delmarva Christian 28
The Buccaneers advanced to their eighth straight quarterfinal appearance, jumping out to a 19-5 lead after the first quarter and holding serve the rest of the way.
No. 10 Tatnall 63, No. 7 Caesar Rodney 35
The Hornets rolled into the first quarterfinal in school history, breaking open a close game at CR.
No. 9 Archmere 52, No. 8 Woodbridge 43
The Auks (16-6) turned a 10-point halftime deficit into a nine-point win. Madison Stewart and Lauren Kim each scored 14 points for Archmere, while Izzy Gioffre and Fiona Teaney added 10 points each. Cha’Kya Johnson led the Blue Raiders (17-5) with 16 points.
